Every year the Dublin Airport Police & Fire Service Rowing Club (A.P.F.S.R.C.) organise and take part in a charity event in aid of the Dublin Airport Authority (daa) staff charities of the year. This year the charities that we will be representing are:

St. Francis Hospice

The Mater Foundation

In the past we have rowed across the Irish Sea on four occasions, rowed to Scotland, through the Mediterranean Sea and we are still the only team to ever row a boat from Ireland to France. We are by far the smallest rowing club in Ireland but we have achieved much more than our size would otherwise suggest, this is mainly due to the close team work that is required in our profession and also because of the fantastic assistance we receive from others. So far, we have raised over €150,000 for good causes and this year which is our 10th anniversary we hope to add to that total by rowing from Boston Harbour to the Statue of Liberty.

Beginning in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday the 21st of May 2020 this 452 kilometre row will take us through five U.S. states over a four day period finally arriving at Liberty Island, New Jersey on Sunday the 24th. Each day of rowing is the equivalent of rowing across the Irish Sea and will take at least 12 hours. We are receiving great assistance from our colleagues in the Boston Fire Department, The FDNY and the NYPD, along with the U.S. Coast Guard and Nassau County Police Department Marine Unit who have offered to escort us along the route. Our crew of 18 is made up of 14 rowing crew, 2 water support and 2 land support crew. This event will not only be extremely challenging because of the distances involved but also because of the conditions and strong tides we can expect along the Atlantic coast of the U.S.. The crew have been training and preparing for this event for the last six months and we are prepared to be pushed to our limits in order to help raise much needed funding for our three great charities. Please donate to our charities by clicking on this link https://www.idonate.ie/Endeavoar2020 and your money will go directly and be split evenly between them.

If you would like to assist our small club please contact us by email at apfsrowingclub@gmail.com or by phone on 00353876451260. For more information or to discuss any aspect of this event further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks indeed.
